Every Woman Has Her Price: Characters

As our first public appearance, Coffee+Sponge will be appearing at the Soho Theatre scratch night on Monday the 12th of April; An interactive live theatre piece.

Louise David. 58 Rue Monceau
As cheap as a penny role and just as common. She is tall, fair, thin,  Jewess, about twenty-nine years of age, with a funny little pair of breasts, very low down, just like two tobacco puches, with no tobacco inside. She has no keeper or special lover, but lives on a rapid succession of short, promiscuous favours. She sleeps with anybody, for any wages, and does anything she is asked.

Marie Estradère. Bouffes-Parisiens Théâtre
An insignificant, slight chesnut beauty, with good features, and a dimple in her chin. She has been the friend of the public for many years, and still looks the same as ever. She is known by the particular nickname of 'Boule de Gomme', whcih is a favorite sweetmeat, because she is never so happy as when she has got a fine sugar stick between her lips. Always ready for any mortal thing, she has a select private collection of old married men of dirty tastes, who call upon her in the day time to gratify their most lascivious dreams. In one afternoon she has been know to divest herself of clothing, and run up and sown a pair of steps, while an elderly amateur was onanising himself beneath; then she has flogged one of the members of the Senate; and has wound up by orally polluting a dramatic author, who had promised her a good part in a new opéra-bouffe. A little while ago she was invited to a ball, given at a fashionable club, and was seen to disappear several times, but always with a fresh partner. Some inquisitive guests took the liberty of following her, and it was found that she had led her victims to her brougham, and esconced therein, employed her fair hand to receive their manly liberations. For the accommodating shake of her wrist she charged five louis, and was driving a roaring trade till the gentlemen put an end to her vagaries and sent her home with a flea in her ear.
